How to Cat
Feb. 25th, 2019 07:29 amI found the cutest new comic strip and had to share! How To Cat doesn't update every day yet, but the artist has captured the antics of our feline friends, as well as our attitudes toward them, perfectly. I anticipate enjoying this new strip for a good long while.

The Masked Singer
Feb. 20th, 2019 06:58 am
So, I don't think I've mentioned it here before, but I am completely obsessed with "The Masked Singer." Anyone else enjoying this show? Of course, I've known the identity of the Peacock since the first note of the first song, but that hasn't changed my enjoyment, even a little.
Who do you think will be eliminated this week? All the remaining performers are so talented! I'm torn between the Monster and the Bee. Maybe it will be a complete surprise and the Lion will get the boot! I have a pretty good idea who the Bee is, but the Lion and the Monster are total mysteries.

Bohemian Rhapsody
Feb. 17th, 2019 09:04 am
Hubby came back from the Redbox with "Bohemian Rhapsody." I've been wanting to see this one since I first heard about it, but wasn't motivated enough to go to the theater.
Let me just say -- Amazing! This movie deserves every Oscar nomination is has received and probably should've nabbed a few more. With the help of the two surviving members of Queen, the filmmakers knocked it out of the park. I will be watching this one again. In fact, I might have to purchase my own copy to watch whenever the mood strikes.
Checking In
Jan. 27th, 2019 07:17 pm
Hi everyone! Just quickly checking in to let you all know I'm still around. Things have been hectic here since the first of the year and just as I thought everything was starting to settle down the flu decided to take control of our household. We're on the mend, but it's probably going to be at least another week or so before we get our energy back completely. This is the first time in several years we've had the flu. Those yearly flu shots really do work!
I hope everyone else is staying as warm and healthy as possible. Hope to be back with you soon.
Are The Holidays Over Yet?
Dec. 26th, 2018 07:10 pmI hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas yesterday! Ours was pretty great.
My kiddo and her housemates came over, as did my sister and her husband. Brother-in-law was doing really well, considering how horrid last week was for him. Everyone got a fun present and we all had a nice meal together. I did roast pork loin, hash brown casserole, broccoli with cheese sauce, Waldorf salad, dinner rolls, pecan pie, and chocolate pecan fudge pie.

I was extra thankful for my brother-in-law and one of Kiddo's housemates. During the preparation of our meal, while checking on the oven, I managed to lay my hand on a hot burner. Fortunately, dinner was mostly prepared. Brother-in-law was kind enough to slice the roast while I doctored my hand. Later, I enlisted my sister to serve dessert, only to find out she had never sliced a pie in her entire life! How does someone make it to 54 years old without slicing at least one pie? Anyway, Housemate kindly came to the rescue. Aren't families wonderful? I'm a very lucky lady to have mine.

Holiday Crazies
Dec. 22nd, 2018 05:16 pmI can't believe I haven't posted anything since Thanksgiving Day! December has been a hectic month so far. Here's a little bit of what's been going on:
( Cut For Length )
Whew! Made myself tired just typing all that. In case I don't make it back online before Tuesday, I wish all of you, my LJ and DW friends, the merriest of Christmases. And, if you don't celebrate Christmas, may the holiday you do celebrate be festive and full of joy.

ETA: I almost forgot! Thank you so much,
shirebound for your lovely Christmas card! ♥♥♥ I wish I was organized enough to get cards out in time for the holiday. Maybe next year... :-)

Learning All About Me
Nov. 9th, 2018 08:36 pmDid my DNA. Interesting experiment for someone who was adopted. I definitely recommend it. If I get the 23 and Me kit I want for Christmas I'll learn some medical stuff, too.
Seems I'm British and German with just a touch of Irish and Norwegian thrown in for good measure. Doesn't get much whiter than that! 🤣 Apparently my ancestors came to New England in the early 1700s. Cool!
Haven't found any blood relatives, though. There's one kid who's probably a second cousin and that's about it. A bit disappointing. Not that I really expected to actually FIND anyone, but it did cross my mind... A lot.
And, egad! I'm a Yankee! Look at those migrations! 😲 As a good Southern girl, how am I supposed to live with THAT? LOL

Hospital Adventures
Oct. 30th, 2018 07:26 amWell, Mom's in the hospital. Apparently she developed a UTI and has a hernia with possible bowel obstruction. Hopefully, we'll find out today if she is going to need surgery to repair the hernia. She certainly knows how to do the "sick" thing right. *eyeroll*
Speaking of hospitals, nurses are the unsung heroes of the medical world. Where would we be without nurses? Hug your favorite nurse today!

I Knew This Would Happen
Oct. 23rd, 2018 07:43 amAfter weeks of going over every morning and evening to help get her dressed and undressed, Mom is doing much better. She's been getting herself undressed in the evenings for nearly a week, which has cut my need to help in half. Woot! I'm still going over every morning to help her dress and make sure she's taking her medicine the way she should.
But, the thing I've been dreading happened yesterday. Her home health aide gave her a bath and dressed her in the morning, and since she undresses herself at night I didn't have to go over at all for the first time in forever! It was like a mini vacation. Then about 7:00 last night Mom calls: "Aren't you going to come see me today?"
I'm so delighted she's starting to fend for herself, but I just knew this would happen.
*sigh*

Harry Potter Homecoming
Oct. 16th, 2018 07:09 amIf you're a Harry Potter fan, you seriously need to watch this. It's incredible!
We just got home from seeing "First Man." I'm sad to report that I cannot recommend this movie. What, exactly, was the director thinking? It was dull and tedious. There wasn't a drop of joy to be found anywhere. I didn't care about any of the characters. The cinematography was terrible. (Think 2+ hours of nothing but close-ups and hand-held camera effects) I fell asleep more than once and I completely stopped watching about 2/3 of the way through. Even my space-loving Hubby agreed with me about the bleakness of the film. The only exciting part was seeing the name of my first cousin, once removed, in the credits as location manager.
Including previews and travel time, I consider it three hours of my life I'll never get back. Unless you are a super space nerd who can't let a single movie about the space race pass you by, you're better off skipping this film.
