First you need to know two things:
1. Hubby has an extensive collection of sci-fi movies on DVD. I think it's his goal to own every sci-fi movie ever made. The shelving alone takes up one whole wall of our living room and the total count is fast approaching 2,000!
2. My mother eats dinner with us five nights a week. Then we watch some TV before Hubby takes her home. Lately it's been old episodes of Star Trek and on Sunday we always watch America's Funniest Home Videos. The only nights she doesn't eat with us are Wednesday and Saturday when she does church stuff.
Last night Hubby came home with "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and decided we needed to watch it after dinner. Since Mom's taste in movies and TV usually runs more toward Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Matlock, and Little House on the Prairie, I figured she'd wind up sleeping through the movie. Boy, was I wrong! It took her a while to get into the story, but by the end she was on the edge of her seat. And, I think Baby Groot has a new fan, too. LOL
Next time, I won't be so leery of movies that are out of Mom's comfort zone. We still won't show her anything scary, though. She actually watched "Tremors" through her fingers. 🤣
