Summer on the Lake

Tuesday is our wedding anniversary. Since we're celebrating 25 years, we decided to do something special: A dinner cruise on Lake Texoma.

Island Girl left dock at 7:30 p.m. (I wasn't the only person on board reminded of the SS Minnow from Gilligan's Island!)

We had such a good time, we're thinking about doing it again.

A few more pictures under the cut:

Do You Lose Your Phone?

LOL! This would never happen to my kiddo. The phone has become permanently attached to her hand!

Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the great dads out there!

This is a picture of my Daddy, circa 1944. Wasn't he handsome?
Check out that mischievous look! He had the personality to match, too. LOL

I miss you, Daddy. 😒

Name the Cartoon Character

This was fun. Behind the cut is a collection of 27 cartoon characters in silhouette. How many can you identify?

Full disclosure: Fourth from the right on the bottom row has me stumped. I know I've seen him before, but I can't remember where. It's driving me nuts!

The Up Side

We finally rented "The Up Side" over the weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect, so it was a very pleasant surprise when I enjoyed it so much. This is a very touching and funny movie based on a true story. I need to find out if there is a book and pick up a copy. If you haven't seen this one yet, I highly recommend it.

Tolkien

I guess I'm going to have to wait for "Tolkien" to come to Redbox or Netflix. It's still not showing anywhere near me and I just don't feel like driving all the way to Dallas. If it's even still in the one theater I found there.

No Sweat!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day and found a way to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our liberty.

Our HVAC went out Friday night before the long holiday weekend. Typical. It just couldn't wait for a normal business day, could it?

The repairman came out yesterday (Tuesday) and the prognosis wasn't good. We've known for a few years now that we were going to have to replace the whole system one day and that day has finally come. Tomorrow (Thursday), workers will be crawling all over our house, in our backyard, and up in the attic, rewiring, installing, and doing whatever else needs to be done to bring our house up to code.

I'm trying to look on the positive side. This could've happened in the middle of a long hot Texas summer instead of a warmish, stormy spring. Ceiling fans are keeping the temperature tolerable while we wait.

Plus, we're finally going to be joining the 21st century! We'll even have a thermostat that can be controlled from a smart phone. I'm not sure how often I'll need to turn the air conditioner up or down from the Walmart parking lot, but at least I'll be able to if I want! πŸ˜‚

It's A Birthday!

Today is my mother's birthday. I know it's hard to tell from this picture, but she's 92 years young! We're so lucky to still have her with us.

Happy Birthday Mommy!

She's smiling so big because she just discovered how much she loves diet Dr Pepper! If you could see her glass you would notice it's already half empty. The full glass belongs to Hubby. LOL

Kids These Days

I just about split a gut laughing over this video. Hubby even tore himself away from getting ready for work to come find out what was going on. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

...when they "reset" the phone? OMG! hahahaha!...

Oh, The Pain! The Pain!

I went to the doctor Friday with shoulder pain and found out I have a torn rotator cuff. It's going to be fine with anti-inflammatory medication and time, thank goodness. While I was there we got to chatting about vaccinations and I found out a few things I want to share:

Did you know the CDC announced in 2000 that measles had been eliminated in the United States? It's kind of sad to think about when you consider the measles epidemic we're experiencing now. The measles vaccine was first licensed in 1963 and again in 1967. In 1971 it was combined with mumps and rubella and became the MMR vaccine. The original measles vaccine was not particularly effective, so people born between the years 1957 and 1967 should consider getting re-vaccinated, or at least have a titer test performed to see if they are immune.

The doctor also told me pediatricians are seeing unusually high numbers of children with the adult strain of Pertussis. Adults can be sick with pertussis and/or be carriers and not even know. Medical professionals are recommending all adults over the age of 18 get a whooping cough booster to protect any children they may come in contact with.

The last vaccination we discussed was shingles. Any person who had chicken pox as a child has the potential to develop shingles. And it's not a disease you get once and then have immunity from. Shingles can come back again and again. Since I've already suffered shingles once, and have no desire to ever do it again, that vaccination makes all kinds of sense. It's a 2-parter, so you have to go back in two months for the second dose.

Hubby had the day off yesterday, so we went to the pharmacy to get our vaccinations (all three!). I'm not going to sugar coat it, that shingles vaccination stung a bit. And, this morning I can barely raise my arm over my head. Way worse than the torn rotator cuff! But, I feel really good about taking care of myself and the people around me.

So, I'll say one more thing and then get down off my soapbox:

Don't Procrastinate. Vaccinate!

Avengers Endgame

Went to see "Avengers Endgame" today. I won't spoil it for anyone, but I will say it was a very satisfying ending to the story-line. And boy is it long. Don't be like me; use the facilities before the show starts! The story gets a little confusing, but just go with it and enjoy the ride. I also strongly recommend watching "Avengers Infinity War" before heading to the theater.

In other news: DD and housemates had a rough month. Sickness swept through their household and many days of work were missed. I took them grocery shopping at Sam's Club and Walmart this afternoon. Not exactly the way I planned to spend my Sunday, but at least I know they won't go hungry while they work on getting their finances back in order.

Meme Time

From [personal profile] baranduin

1. What was the last thing you put in your mouth? Turkey sandwich and veggie straws

2. Do you sleep naked? Yes

3. Worst pain I've ever felt? The summer before I was a senior in high school I dropped a very large, very full glass jar of mayo on my big toe. (back then you could buy gallon jars of the stuff) When school started we were all gathering in the gym to pick our sport for the semester. By then my toenail had turned black and was halfway off. The gym door closed on top of my sandal-clad foot and yanked the remainder of my toenail off. Ouch! Then when I sat down on the bleachers, a very large splinter, more of a dagger really, flaked off the seat and embedded itself into the back of my thigh. I've had abdominal surgery that didn't hurt as much. Needless to say, that was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

4. Favorite place(s) you've been? We traveled a lot when I was a child. I've been to pretty much every natural attraction west of the Mississippi river. Too bad I only have dim memories of all those vacations. In more recent years, my favorite places have been Alaska and Moody Gardens in Galveston.

5. How late did you stay up last night? 11:30pm

6. If you could move somewhere else, where would it be? Why would I want to move? I live in Texas!

7. Which of your Social Network friends lives closest to you? Lynn Walls or possibly dreamflower02

8. When was the last time you cried? Yesterday while watching a very touching episode of Bunheads

9. Who took your profile pic? I don't use a picture of myself

10. Two of favorite films? Along with the usual suspects (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter) I am currently hooked on Hallmark mystery movies. There is a series of movies featuring Aurora Teagarden from the series of mysteries by Charlaine Harris, the author who also created the Sookie Stackhouse series, the origin of the True Blood television series.

11. What’s your favorite season? Spring

12. If you could have any career, what would it be? Panda Nanny! Or more seriously, anything to do with computers, or perhaps a Car Delivery Driver. How cool would it be to get paid to drive cars back and forth across the country?

13. What was the last book you read? A Witch to Remember, by Heather Blake

14. If you could talk to ANYONE right now? Hubby. He's been out of town on business and I miss him.

15. Are you a good influence? I don't know

16. Does pineapple belong on pizza? Ew!

17. You have the remote, what is on right now? Bunheads

18. Last concert? Donny and Marie in Las Vegas last summer. Best birthday present ever!

20. Favorite type of food? I have simple tastes. I like American food: steak, hamburgers, fried chicken... but I also love Tex-Mex.

Phone Wallpapers

I wanted a Rose Gold cellphone wallpaper for my lock screen to go with my Rose Gold cellphone case and my Rose Gold Popsocket, so I made these. Unfortunately, they didn't work out because the color of the wallpaper made it impossible to see the date and time. But I thought they were beautiful, so I decided to share them here. These are just thumbnails. The actual wallpapers are 720x1480 and I can personalize them however you like.

.........

I'm calling them Mandala, Silk, Wood, and Glitter (my personal favorite).

There is already a place on my lock screen for an emergency number, so I didn't show it here, but I like the idea of a line that reads: "In case of emergency please call: (555) 555-5555"

Let me know if you want one!

Oh, and in case anyone is interested, I went back to my old lock screen wallpaper. I'm happy to share that one, to. (Stars Hollow-720x1480)

Refrigerator Woes

I got an email this morning from Amazon cancelling the subscribe and save on the water filter for my fridge. I was afraid the filter had been discontinued, so I immediately went online and started searching for another source. That's when I discovered my refrigerator is 15 years old. That's not so very old for a fridge, is it?

The good news is I easily found a replacement filter at, of all places, Best Buy. Not only is it a replacement, it's an OEM replacement, and cheaper than the one I was buying from Amazon! I can't remember the last time we had a brand name filter in our fridge. Best Buy even has their own Subscribe and Save program that will ship it for free, so I don't have to remember to pick one up every six months. Thank you Best Buy! ❀ You will be the first place I look when it's time to buy my next major appliance.
