A Wrinkle in Time

We went to see "A Wrinkle in Time" yesterday and I'll cut right to the chase. If you're a fan of the novel by Madeleine L'Engle, I suggest you skip this movie as you will be very disappointed. It was disjointed and confusing and only marginally followed the plot of the book. Missing characters and the unsettling personalities of the Mrs didn't help. The poor reviews and low scores this movie is currently receiving come as no surprise. Word of mouth has likely caused many people to stay away from the theater. If you must see this version, save some money and skip the 3D. Viewing in 3D did nothing to enhance the visuals, in my opinion.

If you want to see a much better version of this classic story, be sure to check out the 2003 interpretation. It is much more faithful to the book. My only issue with it was the cut-rate rendering of Aunt Beast and the Ixchelians. But, at least they were included.

Footnote: Apparently director Ava DuVernay is not taking the poor reviews of her movie well. She is basically crying racism and chauvinism, completely ignoring the fact that many women and people of color are panning it, too. Frankly, how could race or gender be involved when it is currently being trounced by another movie ("Black Panther") written, produced, directed, and cast almost entirely with people of color?

That's a shame. I was hoping it would be a faithful adaptation.

Bummer. I had high hopes. Will watch it on tv I’m pretty sure I won’t resist that :-)
